For our “Cozy” theme this month, Karen and I were thinking about activities that would encourage a bit of downtime. Wouldn’t it be great if, at the end of the day, you opened the door and your house smelled like a bakery? You’d dish out a bowl of stew, tear off a piece of freshly made bread, cozy up on the couch, and dig in?
The point of the scene we’re setting for all of us is to encourage relaxation, so we wanted to find the easiest bread baking recipe out there. We discovered the cookbook “Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day” by Jeff Hertzberg, Zoe Francois, and Mark Luinenburg. We set out to see if we could really have fresh baked bread anytime we wanted it throughout this hectic month.
After a short amount of fairly easy work, we've got fresh dough that will keep in the fridge for 2 weeks. The idea is to tear off portions of the dough and bake it as needed. Coming home and baking the bread really does only take 5 minutes of time, now that the dough is ready to go. Thirty minutes later, you’ve got a beautiful, brown boule, with the aroma we all recognize as the smell of cozy! Thank you, “Bread In 5”!
